To Take Seriously It's Not a Race Some people may wonder why rescue groups take the adoption process so seriously. The answer is simple. Our goal is not to adopt out the highest number of cats, but to place each cat in a loving home where he/she will live for the rest of his/her life. By the time a cat enters a rescue system, they will often have had multiple homes, obviously none of them permanent. In order to improve cat retention rates, our adoption counsellors work very hard to match each potential adopter with the cat who will best fit into his or her lifestyle. We feel that by paying careful attention to the feline/human match, we give our wonderful cats a better chance of finding permanent, loving homes. Environment is Important Our adoption room at Petcetera has been cage-free since the spring of 2004. Providing an environment with the least amount of stress possible is of major importance to the PAW Society's rescue team. A Perfect Match Trained adoption counsellors interview prospective adopters to understand their needs and then adopters are encouraged to get to know the cats. Sometimes, the match is almost immediate; sometimes people like to visit both adoption centres and maybe a few foster homes before they make their choice. After placement, a follow-up call is made to the new adoptive home to provide support and to find out how the cat and its new family are doing. We are always available to answer any questions from the adopter. Once a PAW Cat, Always a PAW Cat Even when cats leave PAW, they are considered PAW cats for the rest of their lives. On the sad occasion when an adoption has not worked out, we will always accept the cat back into the PAW Society, for any reason.
